Envision Racing driver Sebastien Buemi has described the new Formula E GEN4 car as a 'beast' following its recent debut at Circuit Paul Ricard in France. The Swiss driver, who is currently competing in the 2025 Formula E season, believes the GEN4 represents a significant evolution from its predecessor, the GEN3 Evo.
Buemi's Impressions of the GEN4 Car
Speaking to Formulae.com after the unveiling, Buemi said: 'It feels like a beast. I'd say it's modern, it looks fast, you know? Big tires, good aero and then when you see it drive or you drive it yourself, it's pretty impressive.' He highlighted the key changes: 'I think the biggest change is mainly aerodynamic. Obviously a lot more downforce, tyres are bigger and the car is more powerful. We'll have four-wheel drive all the time, but a lot more power, so, it's like a very strong, improved GEN3 Evo.'
The GEN4 car, which will join the championship from next season, is capable of speeds exceeding 300 kph. Buemi noted: 'It's a big statement for Formula E to go to GEN4. I think it's a way faster car. I guess people will see how much faster it is. It accelerates faster than a Formula 1 car, so it's just showcasing what the new technology allows us to do with an electric car.'
Buemi's Current Season Performance
Buemi currently sits ninth in the Formula E Drivers' Standings with 43 points. His best result this season was a second-place finish at the Jeddah E-Prix (Round 5). He recently won the 6 Hours of Imola race in the World Endurance Championship, a victory that has boosted his confidence heading into the remaining eleven races of the Formula E calendar.
Looking ahead, Buemi is preparing for the Berlin double-header scheduled for May 1-3. He has a strong track record at the Berlin E-Prix, having won the event twice (2016 and 2017) with Renault e.dams, and has secured multiple podiums with Nissan. With Envision Racing, he has achieved two pole positions and one fastest lap in Berlin. Given his history and current form, another podium finish in Berlin would not be surprising.
GEN4 Debut Event
The GEN4 car was unveiled in front of a select audience at Circuit Paul Ricard. Buemi shared a video on Instagram showing all four generations of Formula E cars on track, highlighting the evolution of the championship's technology.
With the GEN4 car set to race from next season, Buemi's positive feedback underscores the excitement surrounding the future of electric racing. The car's enhanced aerodynamics, larger tires, and increased power promise to deliver faster and more thrilling races.
