Patna: Two youths lost their lives and a third was seriously injured after a speeding bus collided with their motorcycle in Samastipur district on Monday morning. The deceased have been identified as Kanhaiya Kumar, 23, son of Bhubaneshwar Rai, and Mithun Kumar, 22, son of Bechan Das, both residents of Akbarpur, ward no. 10, Kalyanpur, in Samastipur. The injured youth, Rakesh, is currently undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital.
Accident Details
According to police reports, the three friends were returning home from a wedding feast in Pateli village, Ujiarpur, when the tragic incident occurred on the Samastipur-Rosera road near a fuel station in Jitwarpur Chauth. The bus allegedly struck their motorcycle from behind, crushing the riders. Following the accident, the bus driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
Response and Investigation
Local residents rushed the three victims to the sadar hospital, where doctors declared Kanhaiya and Mithun dead upon arrival. Rakesh's condition remains serious, according to medical staff. Ram Jeevan Rai, brother of deceased Kanhaiya, stated that the accident happened as they were returning after participating in the wedding feast.
In protest, people broke the windows of the bus and created a disturbance. Upon receiving information, police from Mufussil police station arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Mufussil SHO Ajit Kumar said, “The bodies have been sent to the sadar hospital for postmortem. Police have seized the bus, registered a case, and initiated an investigation into the incident. Raids are underway to arrest the absconding driver.”
This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving on Bihar's roads. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any traffic violations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
