Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has expressed strong confidence that India hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030 will dramatically transform the country's position in international sports. The celebrated boxer shared her vision during a significant event at Rashtriya Raksha University in Ahmedabad.
Home Advantage Boosts National Pride
Borgohain, who won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and received the prestigious Khel Ratna Award, emphasized the psychological advantage of competing on home soil. "When CWG happens in other countries, it feels like we are just participants," she stated. "But when it is on home ground, the pride boosts energy and confidence."
The star athlete was speaking ahead of a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony with Rashtriya Raksha University. The partnership will focus on sports science integration and capacity building initiatives, marking an important step in strengthening India's sports infrastructure.
Ahmedabad Prepares for 2030 Games
Ahmedabad is officially set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, marking the prestigious event's return to Indian soil after a significant 15-year gap. The last time India hosted the Commonwealth Games was in 2010 in Delhi, which was considered a major success despite some initial challenges.
Borgohain highlighted how hosting international sporting events creates a lasting legacy. She believes the 2030 Games will provide "more hopes, more dreams, and more athletes from India" as she looks forward to potentially competing in front of home supporters.
Women's Sports on the Rise
The accomplished boxer also noted encouraging trends in women's participation in sports across India. "I am now seeing more girls stepping into the sporting arena and pushing boundaries," Borgohain observed with visible enthusiasm.
Her comments come at a time when Indian women athletes are consistently delivering outstanding performances in international competitions. From boxing to badminton, athletics to wrestling, Indian women are increasingly making their mark on the global stage.
The combination of home-ground advantage, improved infrastructure through partnerships like the RRU collaboration, and increasing female participation creates a perfect environment for Indian sports to reach new heights by the time the 2030 Commonwealth Games arrive.
