Shaikh Mohammad Shams Alam, a para swimmer from Madhubani district in Bihar, has once again brought glory to the nation by qualifying for the Asian Para Games 2026. He secured a bronze medal at the Para Swim Open Falkenberg International Championship held in Falkenberg, Sweden, on May 9. Competing in the 100m breaststroke (SB4 category), Shams clocked 2:17.80 to finish third, which also propelled him to the fourth position in the international rankings of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Hometown and Background

Shams hails from the village of Rathos in the Bisfi block of Madhubani district. His latest achievement took place at the Klitterbadet Indoor Swimming Pool, where he not only secured a podium finish but also shattered the national record. This commanding performance has secured his entry into the Asian Para Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from October 18 to 24, 2026.

Qualification for Multiple Events

This feat has qualified him for all three events at the Asian Para Games. It adds another remarkable chapter to the journey of a young athlete who continues to elevate the standards of Indian para sports.
