Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised Rishikanta's record-breaking 121kg snatch, describing it as a testament to his talent, discipline, and hard work. She wished him continued success in future competitions.
Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Pralhad Joshi also extended their congratulations. Goyal lauded Rishikanta's dedication and resilience, while Joshi highlighted the record-breaking snatch as a moment of immense pride for the nation.
Record-Breaking Performance in Glasgow
Rishikanta finished with a combined total of 264kg (121kg snatch + 143kg clean and jerk). Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan claimed the gold with a Games record total of 273kg (121kg + 152kg), and Kenya's Joshua Mboya took bronze with 260kg (115kg + 145kg).
In the snatch, Rishikanta started with a successful 116kg, improved to 119kg, and then lifted 121kg on his final attempt to break the Games record and set a personal best. Kasdan matched the 121kg effort moments later, leaving them tied after the snatch.
During the clean and jerk, Rishikanta opened with 143kg to take the overall lead temporarily. Kasdan responded with 145kg and 149kg to move ahead. Needing 151kg to reclaim the lead, Rishikanta completed the clean but failed to lock out the jerk. Kasdan then lifted 152kg to seal the gold with a record total.
