Two Engineering Students Drown in Canal Near Davanagere

Davanagere: Two engineering students from BIET Engineering College in Davanagere drowned while swimming in the Bhadra Right Bank Canal near Marabanahalli in Channagiri taluk, according to police. A group of 10 students had visited the spot from the college, and among them, Vivek and Mansi drowned in the canal.

Rescue Operation and Search

Fire and emergency services personnel recovered Vivek's body, and the search for Mansi is ongoing. The incident occurred within the Basavapatna police jurisdiction, where a case has been registered. According to police, the group had gone to visit a temple near Basavapatna. After seeing the Bhadra Right Bank Canal, they entered the water to swim.

Sequence of Events

Mansi slipped and fell into the canal, and Vivek jumped in to save her. The other students attempted a rescue by forming a human chain, but both Mansi and Vivek were swept away by the strong current. Vivek, who was from Nittuvalli in Davanagere, was found, and the search for Mansi continues.
