Gorakhpur is set to further strengthen its position as a national rowing hub as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the 46th Junior National Rowing Championship at Ramgarh Tal on Thursday.
CM's Schedule at the Event
During the event, the Chief Minister will watch two final rowing competitions before felicitating winners and addressing participants. The championship follows the successful hosting of the Sub-Junior National Rowing Championship at Ramgarh Tal in October 2024, where the CM had also interacted with athletes.
Infrastructure Transformation
The rapid transformation of the Ramgarh Tal lakefront and the development of a world-class Water Sports Complex at a cost of Rs 49 crore have significantly strengthened rowing infrastructure in the region. The venue has also been hosting a training camp for the Indian women's rowing team preparing for the 2026 Asian Games.
Participation and Scale
According to Sudhir Sharma, who also serves as vice-president of the Rowing Federation of India, teams from 20 states, including host Uttar Pradesh, are participating in the championship. Around 273 athletes and officials are part of the five-day event.
Recent Major Events at Ramgarh Tal
- Khelo India University Games 2023

This consistent hosting of national-level events underscores Gorakhpur's emergence as a premier destination for rowing in India, with world-class facilities attracting athletes from across the country.
