Alcaraz & Sinner Eye Doubles Team-Up: 'It's Going to Be a Surprise'
Alcaraz, Sinner hint at potential doubles partnership

The world's top two male tennis players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, have revealed a shared desire that could thrill fans worldwide: playing doubles together. While the packed singles calendar makes it a challenging prospect, both stars are open to the idea of joining forces on the same side of the net for at least one special match.

The Dream Doubles Partnership

During a recent press conference, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz confirmed that the idea has crossed their minds. "It was once or twice we thought about it," the Spanish sensation admitted. He highlighted the primary obstacle, stating, "But being singles players and playing so many matches, tournament after tournament in a row, it’s really difficult to play doubles sometimes."

Alcaraz, however, was quick to add, "At least once would be fine." He even playfully suggested how they would complement each other, noting, "I think I play forehand and he (Sinner) plays backhand." World No. 2 Jannik Sinner echoed the sentiment, calling the potential pairing "fun" and promising a surprise for their supporters. "We are going to talk about it maybe this year. Or next year, why not? It’s going to be a surprise!" the Italian star said.

Rivalry and Respect: The New 'Big Two'

The discussion took place as the duo prepares to kick off the 2026 season with an exhibition match in Seoul, South Korea, just eight days before the Australian Open begins. This clash is another chapter in what many see as tennis's new premier rivalry, a modern 'Big Two' following the legendary era of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

Sinner was respectful of the past giants but focused on carving their own path. "We have a great rivalry. We also need to see how long we can keep up this level. What the 'Big Three' has done, we cannot compare ourselves with them. We also don’t want to. We are just ourselves," he stated. He emphasized the competitive push they provide each other, saying, "It’s great to have him to push me to the limit."

Since Novak Djokovic's last Grand Slam win at the 2023 US Open, every Major title has been claimed by either Sinner or Alcaraz, including a historic French Open final between them last year.

Exhibition Focus and Australian Open Outlook

Despite the high stakes of their growing rivalry, both players stressed that their upcoming exhibition in Seoul is about entertainment and connection. Sinner clarified that the result would not be a predictor for Melbourne. "We’re happy to be here... But it’s not going to reflect on any of us how we’re going to start the tournament in Australia," he explained. "We are here to... put a smile on as many people as possible."

While a formal doubles match featuring Alcaraz and Sinner remains a tantalizing 'what if' for now, their openness has ignited hope among tennis enthusiasts. Whether as fierce opponents or temporary partners, their commitment to elevating the sport and entertaining fans is unmistakably clear.
