FIFA World Cup 2026: Ronaldo scores in sixth World Cup; Modric 200

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan, becoming the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026), according to ESPN. At 41 years and 138 days, Ronaldo became the oldest player to score multiple goals in a World Cup match, surpassing Lionel Messi's record set earlier in the tournament. He also became Portugal's all-time top World Cup scorer with 10 goals, overtaking Eusebio.

Ronaldo's Record-Breaking Performance

Ronaldo's brace extended his career tally to 145 international goals in 230 appearances. He has now scored against 49 different national teams. The match also featured the largest age gap between two starting players in World Cup history: 22 years and 183 days between Uzbekistan's Bekhruz Karimov and Ronaldo. Nuno Mendes scored a direct free-kick, joining Ronaldo as the only Portuguese players to achieve that feat in a World Cup.

England Held to Goalless Draw by Ghana

England's 12-match winning streak in competitive football ended with a 0-0 draw against Ghana. Thomas Tuchel's side registered 79% possession, the highest by any team failing to score in a World Cup match in the last 60 years, according to ESPN. Ghana managed only two shots, the joint-lowest in the 2026 tournament. England also recorded their 13th goalless draw in World Cup history, the most by any team. Jude Bellingham became the youngest Englishman to reach 50 caps at 22 years and 359 days.

Modric completed 88% of his passes and has now achieved at least 80% passing accuracy in all 19 World Cup starts. Ante Budimir became Croatia's oldest World Cup goalscorer at 34 years and 336 days. Panama have lost all five World Cup matches, scoring only two goals.

Colombia Beat DR Congo 1-0

Daniel Munoz scored Colombia's winner, becoming only the third Colombian to score in each of the team's first two World Cup matches, following Adolfo Valencia (1994) and James Rodriguez (2014), according to ESPN. Luis Diaz was caught offside five times, the most in a single World Cup match since Robin van Persie (six vs Costa Rica in 2014). James Rodriguez created five chances, the most by a Colombian in a World Cup match since Carlos Valderrama in 1998.
