Morocco Coach Ouahbi Says Round of 32 vs Netherlands Requires Different Solutions
Morocco Coach Ouahbi: Netherlands Match Needs Different Solutions

Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi has stated that his team's Round of 32 clash against the Netherlands in the FIFA World Cup 2026 will demand a different approach, despite their impressive group-stage performances. Speaking ahead of the match in Guadalupe, Mexico, Ouahbi emphasized the need for new solutions to overcome the Dutch side.

Morocco's Group Stage Success

Morocco advanced to the knockout stage after collecting seven points from Group C, which included matches against Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. They finished second in the group behind five-time champions Brazil on goal difference. Ouahbi praised his team's character and performance in the first three matches but stressed that the knockout stage presents a new challenge.

"In the last three matches, we showed that we are capable of producing good performances and that we have a strong personality on the pitch. But tomorrow's match is different and requires different solutions. That is the mentality with which we will enter the game," Ouahbi said, as quoted by Reuters.

Managing Player Workload

Ouahbi highlighted the importance of squad rotation in the final group-stage match against Haiti, which helped manage players' workloads and keep the team fresh for the knockout stage. He explained that distributing playing time across the squad was a deliberate strategy to ensure every player was in optimal condition.

"From a physical point of view, in the third match we succeeded in managing the playing time in the way we wanted. I was keen to distribute the playing time across the squad so that every player had the opportunity to participate. That also allows the whole team to be in the best possible condition," he said.

Sticking to Strengths

Despite the need for different solutions, Ouahbi affirmed that Morocco will continue to rely on their core strengths. "We will continue to do what we are good at in the best possible way," he said, indicating that the team will focus on executing its game plan effectively against the Netherlands.

Morocco's Round of 32 match against the Netherlands is set to be a crucial test as they aim to advance further in the tournament. The team's discipline and tactical flexibility will be key as they face a strong Dutch side.
