Nagpur: City’s talented Fide Master (FM) Siddhant Gavai remained unbeaten in both the rapid and blitz tournaments to clinch twin titles in the 19th GH Raisoni Memorial Chess Festival at Shraddha Park, Wadi Hingna Link Road, on Sunday.
Rapid Tournament Victory
In the nine-round rapid rating tournament, Siddhant finished on top of the table, collecting 8.5 points to emerge champion. R Sailesh of Tamil Nadu, who won the classical edition of the Festival, stood second with 8 points. Nagpur’s Dishank Bajaj registered a podium finish on a better tie-break score. Bihar’s Kishan Kumar, Nagpur’s Jay Sawalakhe and West Bengal’s Rupam Mukherjee also scored 8 points each but missed the podium. Siddhant won a cash prize of Rs 31,000 and trophy for this win.
Blitz Tournament Success
In the non-rating blitz tournament, Siddhant kept his slate clean by winning all the nine rounds he played. He scored a full 9 points to secure his second successive title in the faster format. WIM Mrudul Dehankar and FM Priyanshu Patil followed Siddhant with 8 points.
Later, the prizes were distributed by the hands of Jaiprakash Gupta. On the occasion, Shiv Chhatrapati Awardee IM Anup Deshmukh and MCA Secretary Niranjan Godbole, Ajinkya Pingale and SS Soman shared the dais.
