Patten and Heliovaara defend Wimbledon crown
Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara clinched their second successive Wimbledon men's doubles title on Saturday, prevailing in a tense final that featured no break points. The British-Finnish duo won 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) against top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.
No break points in the match
The match was a showcase of dominant serving, with neither side managing to create a single break point opportunity. Both sets were decided in tiebreaks, where Patten and Heliovaara's experience proved decisive. According to match statistics, the winners hit 12 aces and won 84% of first-serve points.
Second consecutive title
Patten, 30, and Heliovaara, 35, became the first pair to win back-to-back Wimbledon men's doubles titles since Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1995-96. "It's an incredible feeling to defend our title here," Patten said after the match. "The crowd was amazing, and we played our best tennis when it mattered most." Heliovaara added, "We trust each other completely, and that showed in the tiebreaks."
Road to the final
The defending champions dropped only two sets en route to the final, defeating sixth seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the semifinals. Arevalo and Pavic, the top seeds, had not lost a set all tournament before the final.
