Shamli: In a significant initiative, police on Monday returned 342 lost and stolen mobile phones, valued at approximately Rs 65 lakh, to their rightful owners during a ceremony held at Police Lines in Bareilly. The event was led by City Superintendent of Police Manush Parik, who personally handed over the devices to the recipients.
Recovery and Verification Process
The recovered handsets, which included both smartphones and keypad models, were traced through a combination of technical surveillance, cyber cell efforts, and coordinated operations with police teams from various districts and states. Each device was meticulously verified using complaint records and unique IMEI numbers before being returned to ensure they reached the correct owners.
Police Campaign Against Mobile Theft
Speaking at the event, SP Parik stated, "This initiative is part of a mission-mode campaign to address complaints related to lost and stolen mobiles." He emphasized that the primary goal was to curb crime while providing swift relief to affected citizens. Parik assured that the drive would continue in the future to tackle such issues effectively.
One grateful recipient shared that her phone contained important documents and cherished memories, and she had lost all hope of recovering it. Police used the occasion to urge citizens to report losses promptly and to keep a record of their IMEI numbers for easier tracking.
The successful return of these phones underscores the police department's commitment to leveraging technology and inter-agency cooperation to combat mobile theft and assist the public.
