Ahmedabad SOG Arrests Two, Seizes Mephedrone Worth Rs 8.8 Lakh

The city crime branch’s Special Operations Group (SOG) in Ahmedabad apprehended two individuals on Thursday, seizing 88 grams of mephedrone, a synthetic drug also known as methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of Rs 8.8 lakh from the Naroda locality. According to police, the accused had previously been booked in prohibition-related cases and allegedly turned to drug trafficking to generate quick income.

Operation Details

Officials reported that the SOG team was conducting patrols under the guidance of senior crime branch officers when they received a tip-off regarding illegal narcotics movement near Chamunda Motor Garage on the Nana Chiloda-Naroda Road. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police intercepted two suspects and recovered 87.780 grams of the banned synthetic substance from their possession.

Accused Identified

The police identified the accused as a 28-year-old laborer from Naroda and a 34-year-old driver from Nana Chiloda. In addition to the narcotics, law enforcement seized other items, bringing the total value of the recovered contraband and goods to Rs 11.9 lakh.

Legal Action

An FIR was registered at the DCB police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including charges related to possession and criminal conspiracy.

Investigation Progress

During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that they procured the drugs from a supplier based in Rajasthan. Police said the supplier purportedly dispatched consignments through an associate for delivery in Ahmedabad, where the accused allegedly sold the contraband in smaller quantities to local consumers. Officials stated that efforts are underway to trace the Rajasthan-based network and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain.
