AI-Based Portable Legal Assistant Secures Patent
Lucknow: An artificial intelligence (AI)-based portable legal assistance apparatus, jointly developed by faculty members of Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University (RMLNLU) and Amity University, has received a design patent from the Patent Office of India, Government of India.
The device features a comprehensive database of laws, case references, and procedural details that can be accessed anywhere without an internet connection. It is designed as a foldable electronic unit suitable for use in courtrooms, police stations, detention centers, and remote locations with limited legal infrastructure.
Key features include biometric verification for identity checks, encrypted communication for data protection, and an offline legal database. The system is intended for lawyers, police personnel, legal aid workers, and individuals seeking information about legal rights and cases.
Assistant Professor of Law at RMLNLU and a developer of the design, Aparna Singh, stated, “The estimated cost for building a basic version of the device is around Rs 5 lakh.”
The project was jointly developed by Associate Professor at Amity Law School Lucknow, Amity University, Rajeev Kumar Singh, along with researchers Shivam Mishra and Ishika Gautam.
