Bareilly: Journalism students protest zoology professor as in-charge

Bareilly: Students of Chaudhary Charan Singh University’s Tilak School of Journalism and Mass Communication staged a protest after a zoology professor was appointed professor-in-charge of the journalism department. The protest erupted after professor Neelu Jain was appointed to the post. Students alleged that she asked department head Manoj Kumar Srivastava to vacate his office, following which he was seen sitting outside with his computer. After the demonstration, Jain allegedly asked Srivastava to return to his room, though students continued their protest.

Students demand domain expert as in-charge

“The professor-in-charge has no basic understanding of journalism. Someone from our stream should hold this post,” a student said on condition of anonymity. The student further alleged that Jain’s instructions regarding studio equipment reflected a lack of domain knowledge.

HOD and university respond

HOD Manoj Kumar Srivastava said students were upset over the behaviour of the newly appointed professor-in-charge, but added that senior university officials had taken cognisance of the issue and were trying to resolve the matter. “We have secured good national rankings and will ensure that studies are not disrupted,” he said. University registrar Anil Yadav said action would be taken if the matter was formally brought to his notice.
