Begusarai: Police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of creating sexually explicit deepfakes of innocent girls and sharing them on social media platforms. The accused, identified as Kumar Sankrit, was apprehended from his residence at Khajekalan in Patna City.
Details of the Case
Begusarai Cyber DSP Imran Ahmad stated that Sankrit used to save pictures of innocent girls from various social media platforms and convert them into AI-generated sexually explicit videos and pictures. He also used these fabricated images to blackmail the victims for extortion. The case came to light after the mother of a minor victim lodged a complaint at the local cyber police station on Saturday.
Investigation and Arrest
The complaint was registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), and an investigation was initiated based on chats on social media, phone numbers, and bank account details provided by the complainant. The investigation led the cyber police team to zero in on Sankrit. It was also discovered that the accused had blackmailed the victim and her family to pay Rs 20,000 as ransom. The amount was found deposited in an account under the accused's name.
Evidence Seized
The mobile phone used by the accused was seized. The phone's gallery contained over 200 AI-generated nude pictures and videos. The explicit videos had been shared on social media groups. Police are examining the profiles of members involved in these groups.
Legal Action
The cyber DSP said the accused was booked under relevant provisions of the BNS, POCSO, and IT Acts to ensure maximum punishment.
