The centralised admission portal (CAP) for undergraduate courses in West Bengal will open on Monday, allowing students to apply for admission to 460 colleges and 17 universities across the state. Applications will be accepted until June 1, as per a notification issued by the higher education department on Thursday, just hours after the Higher Secondary (HS) results were published. The CBSE Class 12 and ISC results had been declared earlier.
Key Details of the Admission Process
The entire admission process will be conducted online, similar to previous years. Candidates can apply for up to 25 programmes or courses across one or multiple institutions. Undergraduate classes are scheduled to begin from July 6, according to the notification. The portal will be visible to students from Friday and will go live on Monday.
Merit List and Admission Schedule
The first merit list will be published on June 9, and the first round of admission will take place between June 9 and June 15. No application fee is required, and students from any part of the country are eligible to apply.
A higher education department official stated, "An admission meeting was held with university registrars on Thursday. The institutes were instructed to strictly follow the academic calendar, including admissions, to retain bright students."
Seats and Courses Available
Under the CAP system, over 7,000 courses and more than 9 lakh seats are on offer. However, minority and autonomous institutes, unitary universities such as Presidency and Jadavpur, BEd courses, and fine arts and performing arts programmes at Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) are excluded from the centralised process.
Individual College Schedules
While St. Xavier's College will accept applications until June 3, Scottish Church College and Loreto College opened their portals on Thursday. RKM Vidyamandira will accept applications until June 20, and Behala College opened its portal in late April.
