Bengaluru's 'My e-Khata, My Hakku' Drive Sees Over 2,900 Applications
Bengaluru's e-Khata Drive Gets 2,939 Applications

In a recent development, Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, is set to digitize property ownership on a large scale. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has received 2,939 applications under the newly launched 'My e-Khata, My Hakku' initiative, which is part of the Karnataka government's 'Bhoo Guarantee' scheme aimed at simplifying property documentation. This campaign is expected to help lakhs of residents secure legal ownership records through digital e-Khatas.

Timely Launch for Bengaluru's Real Estate Market

The campaign has been launched at a crucial time for Bengaluru's rapidly expanding real estate market. A significant number of homeowners have been struggling with paperwork and documentation, especially those linked to B-Khata properties. The first phase of the drive was organized on May 16 across five city corporations in Bengaluru. According to data, around 1,242 applications were verified and approved and disposed of on the spot. The remaining 1,697 applications will be processed within the given timeline.

Reduced Conversion Fees

Under the new scheme, the Karnataka government has reduced the conversion fee for B-Khata to A-Khata properties from 5% of the guidance value to just 2%, providing almost 60% relief to property owners.

Application Categories and Approvals

Applications submitted during the drive included e-Khata issuance requests, mutation services, new Khata registrations, B-to-A Khata conversions, and grievance redressal. The largest category was e-Khata requests, with 1,080 submissions, of which 568 were cleared immediately. Mutation applications and inheritance or transfer also saw active participation: 64 out of 139 mutation requests were processed, and 90 of the 236 new Khata applications were approved during the event. Additionally, 425 applications were received for B-to-A Khata conversion, of which 120 were cleared instantly.

About 'My e-Khata, My Hakku'

The 'My e-Khata, My Hakku' campaign is expected to take place every Saturday for the next three months at various centers across Bengaluru. Officials estimate that around 5,000 citizens could benefit from this initiative. Special counters have also been set up to assist residents with documentation errors, corrections, and other pending grievances.

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar called the scheme a significant relief for lakhs of property owners in the city, stating that the initiative would make it easier to access loans and sell properties.

Understanding e-Khata

An e-Khata is a digitally maintained property certificate that records all details of a house, including ownership details, tax history, and property classification. Civic authorities believe the digital transition will improve transparency and reduce corruption. The Karnataka government estimates that nearly seven lakh B-Khata properties in Bengaluru could benefit from the scheme. As of now, over 25 lakh properties have already been brought under the e-Khata system.
