The cane development department in Uttar Pradesh has taken steps to link youth with skill development and self-reliance, aiming to make education employment-oriented. The department signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Wadhwani Foundation's Skills Development Network (SDN) to equip students in educational institutions run by cooperative sugarcane societies with modern skills aligned with industry requirements, alongside their traditional education.
“This is enabling them to successfully pursue careers in employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship,” a state government spokesperson said. Cane Commissioner Ministy S stated that approximately 15,440 students are currently enrolled in nine inter-colleges and colleges managed by cooperative sugarcane societies in the state.
In the first phase, around 3,500 students will receive specialised skill development training spanning 75 to 90 hours. Under the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ programme, special emphasis will be placed on the holistic and skill development of female students, who will be provided with employment-oriented and vocational training.
