The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) reported multiple cyberattack attempts targeting its Class 12 verification and re-evaluation portal just hours after its launch. According to the board, the portal received nearly 15 lakh hits within two minutes, resembling a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, alongside over one lakh attempts to gain unauthorized access to files.
Portal Remains Operational Despite Threats
Despite the cyber threats, CBSE confirmed that the portal remained operational, supporting more than 8,000 concurrent users. By 3 pm, over 16,000 students had successfully submitted their applications. The portal went live a day later than originally scheduled due to prior technical issues.
Additional Security Measures Implemented
CBSE stated that additional improvements, including extended session times, have been introduced to enhance user experience. The board also deployed cybersecurity experts from government agencies and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to strengthen the platform's security infrastructure and prevent future attacks.
The incident highlights the growing vulnerability of educational portals to cyber threats, especially during high-demand periods like examination result processing. CBSE assured students and parents that all submitted data remains secure and that the portal is functioning normally.
