Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) is set to introduce multidisciplinary courses (MDCs) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 starting from the 2026-27 academic session. This initiative aims to provide students with a more flexible and holistic learning experience.
Flexible Learning Opportunities
Under the new system, students will no longer be restricted to their core subjects. They will have the opportunity to explore other areas based on their interests. For example, science students can opt for subjects from the arts or social sciences, while those without prior knowledge of Sanskrit can choose courses such as astrology.
Course Structure and Credits
Each department will offer at least four MDCs, ensuring a wide range of options. These courses will be compulsory for the first three semesters, with each course carrying three credits. The curriculum will include practical and skill-based subjects such as journalism training, digital marketing, globalisation, taxation, and awareness of rights and law.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Sanjay Singh emphasized the importance of this change: "The aim is to make learning more practical, skill-based and useful. By exploring different subjects, students can build new skills, discover hidden interests and improve career opportunities."
