The Ahmedabad police have successfully dismantled a fraudulent operation that promised students access to the NEET re-exam question papers. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the scam, which involved luring students through Telegram channels with false claims of providing confidential exam material.
How the Scam Operated
According to officials, the accused created a network on Telegram where they advertised the sale of NEET re-exam papers. They collected money from students under the pretext of delivering the question papers and related information. The fraudsters assured victims that they had inside access to the exam material, which turned out to be entirely fabricated.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The cybercrime unit of the Ahmedabad police launched an investigation after receiving complaints from students who were duped. The suspects were tracked down through digital footprints and financial transactions. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
Impact on Students
Many students, anxious about the competitive exam, fell prey to the scam. The NEET re-exam was scheduled after the original exam faced controversies. The police have urged students to remain cautious and not fall for such fraudulent schemes. They advise reporting any suspicious offers to the authorities immediately.
Preventive Measures
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reiterated that all exam materials are secure and not accessible to unauthorized individuals. Students are encouraged to rely only on official communication channels for exam-related updates. The police are also working with Telegram to identify and block similar fraudulent channels.
Ongoing Investigations
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are looking into whether more individuals are involved in the scam. They are also examining the financial trail to identify all victims. The arrested accused are currently in police custody and will be produced in court.
