In a major crackdown on illicit tobacco trade, police in Wardha district seized a large stock of flavoured tobacco during a raid in Yashwant Nagar, Hinganghat city. The operation was conducted by a team led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) SK Nayak.
Details of the Raid
Acting on a tip-off, the police team searched a premises in Yashwant Nagar and recovered a substantial quantity of flavoured tobacco. The accused, identified as Vitthal Khandare, managed to flee from the spot during the operation. Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
Seized Items and Value
The police seized flavoured tobacco worth approximately Rs 3.5 lakh. Additionally, an SUV allegedly used for transporting the contraband was also impounded. Officials stated that the total value of the seized property, including the vehicle, is estimated to be around Rs 9 lakh.
Further Action
The seized tobacco and related materials have been handed over to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for further investigation and legal proceedings. The police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries to trace the supply chain and other individuals involved in the illegal trade.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the sale and distribution of flavoured tobacco, which is banned in many states due to health concerns.
