The Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced a new pathway for engineering graduates to join its Technical Branch through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores. This initiative aims to attract highly skilled technical professionals to serve in the IAF.
New Entry Route for Technical Branch
Starting from the upcoming recruitment cycle, candidates with valid GATE scores can apply for direct entry into the IAF Technical Branch. The move is expected to streamline the selection process and tap into a pool of talented engineers who have already demonstrated their aptitude through the national-level GATE examination.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in relevant disciplines such as Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science. They must have a valid GATE score from the preceding three years. Age and physical fitness standards as per IAF norms will apply.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will undergo further evaluation, including a personal interview and medical examination. The final selection will be based on GATE score, interview performance, and medical fitness.
The ministry clarified that the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) will continue to remain the standard entry route for all other branches of the IAF, including regular Technical Branch entries. The GATE-based entry is an additional option, not a replacement.
