The Jaipur city police have successfully recovered a total of 790 lost and stolen mobile phones so far in 2026, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 2 crore. These recoveries were carried out by the Jaipur East Police under a special initiative named 'Operation Re-Call', which is specifically designed to trace missing devices and return them to their rightful owners.
Operation Re-Call: A Targeted Drive
All these mobile phones are currently in the process of being returned to their legitimate owners. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ranjita Sharma stated that during the month of April alone, a focused campaign led to the tracing and recovery of 400 mobile phones from various states across the country. Sharma added, 'All recovered devices were handed over to their original owners, bringing relief and restoring confidence among victims. We found that some of the phones were stolen, while others were lost or misplaced.'
Preventive Measures for Phone Security
The DCP highlighted that many modern smartphones come equipped with a feature that requires a password to switch off the device. 'Enabling this setting can significantly improve the chances of recovery in theft cases, as it makes it harder for miscreants to disable or resell the phone,' she explained.
Public Advisory on Reporting Lost Phones
Sharma appealed to the public to report lost or stolen mobile phones on the Government of India's CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal to aid recovery efforts. In cases of cyber fraud, citizens are advised to contact the helpline number 1930 or file complaints at cybercrime.gov.in. Authorities have warned people not to share their banking details or fall prey to online fraud schemes.
Cybercrime Crackdown Yields Results
In a parallel crackdown on cybercrime, the cyber cell of the Jaipur Police (East) managed to freeze fraudulent transactions worth approximately Rs 3.85 crore as of April 2026. 'Out of this amount, around Rs 65.48 lakh has been successfully refunded to victims,' Sharma confirmed.
The police continue to urge citizens to stay vigilant and adopt security measures to protect their mobile devices and financial information.
