Jharkhand Unveils 'e-Sushrut' Mobile App to Revolutionize Digital Healthcare

The health department of Jharkhand has taken a significant leap towards modernizing its healthcare infrastructure with the official launch of the 'e-Sushrut-Jharkhand' mobile application on Wednesday. This innovative app, developed under the Mukhyamantri Digital Health Yojana, is designed to streamline and digitize services across all government hospitals in the state, marking a pivotal shift towards a paperless healthcare system.

Transforming Patient Experience with Digital Health Records

Officials emphasized that the primary goal of the e-Sushrut app is to reduce patients' reliance on physical medical records by providing a secure digital platform for storing, accessing, and managing health data. Through this application, patients can now:

  • Register seamlessly at government hospitals
  • Access digital prescriptions and lab reports
  • Retrieve discharge certificates and treatment documents
  • Manage their complete health history in one place

The launch event, a state-level day-long workshop held in Ranchi, focused on strengthening the digital health ecosystem and accelerating the integration of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) across all healthcare facilities. Health officials stated that the app aims to transform Jharkhand's health sector into a digitally driven, fast, transparent, and citizen-centric system.

Comprehensive Digital Health Infrastructure Expansion

In addition to the mobile application, two other digital services were inaugurated simultaneously:

  1. The official website of ABDM-Jharkhand
  2. The 'Sanchar Sathi' mobile application

The 'Sanchar Sathi' app represents a connectivity breakthrough, enabling all 559 health centers across Jharkhand to be linked through Wi-Fi services with a single click. This infrastructure enhancement ensures that even remote healthcare facilities can participate in the digital transformation.

Integration of Public and Private Healthcare Systems

During the workshop, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajoy Kumar Singh provided crucial updates on the state's digital health progress. He revealed that the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) has been successfully implemented across all district hospitals and community health centers. Currently, efforts are underway to integrate private hospitals into this unified platform.

"The Jharkhand digital health mission was launched to keep pace with the global digital transformation occurring in the healthcare sector," Singh explained. "In just two years, all government district hospitals and community health centers have already implemented ABDM-enabled HMIS, while many private hospitals in the state are yet to join the platform."

Substantial Investment in Digital Healthcare Future

The ABDM initiative was formally launched in Jharkhand in 2024 with an ambitious five-year comprehensive plan backed by an outlay of Rs 299 crore. This substantial investment underscores the state government's commitment to creating a robust digital healthcare infrastructure that benefits all citizens.

The e-Sushrut app specifically targets the digitization of all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and public health centers, eliminating paper-based processes and creating a more efficient healthcare delivery system. This digital push represents a fundamental reimagining of how healthcare services are accessed and managed in Jharkhand, promising greater transparency, accessibility, and efficiency for patients across the state.
