JU Accepts Placement Officer's Resignation Amid Probe

Kolkata: Jadavpur University has officially accepted the resignation letter of Samita Bhattacharya, who served as officer on special duty (training and placement - contractual). The university has instructed her to hand over charge, along with all files and documents pertaining to placement activities, to the newly appointed placement officer, Subhendu Kundu.

Resignation and Release

Bhattacharya submitted her resignation on May 18, citing personal grounds. The release letter issued by the registrar's office on June 3 stated that her resignation was accepted with effect from June 5. However, this acceptance is subject to clearance of all pending duties and the final outcome of an ongoing enquiry.

Enquiry Committee Findings

The university had formed an enquiry committee on April 10 to investigate emerging issues related to the office of placement and training. The committee submitted its preliminary report to the Vice-Chancellor on June 2, stating that the functioning of the placement and training office has been seriously deficient and contrary to the interests of both students and the university.

Vice-Chancellor's Statement

Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee commented on Monday, saying, "Though she had asked for immediate release, we released her on June 5. I appreciate her contribution and service to JU's placement. I have not read the committee's report yet. But I know the issue lies with upkeep and maintenance of placement data at the office of placement and training, for which we struggle to supply data during NAAC and other rankings."

Bhattacharya's Response

Bhattacharya stated on Monday, "I retired last December but was on extension. After the new placement officer has joined, I resigned. I have informed authorities that I am medically unfit to go to the university now."
