Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a digital library at Gandhi Bhawan in Phool Bagh, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8.06 crore under the Mukhyamantri Global Nagrodaya Yojana (CM-VNY).
Facilities and Features
The library, with a seating capacity of 50 persons, will be equipped with modern technology and facilities. It aims to provide students, competitive exam aspirants, and researchers access to high-quality study resources at a single location. Chief engineer (civil) Sayed Fareed Akhtar Zaidi and project in-charge R K Singh stated that civil and IT works will be undertaken to establish the digital library.
Infrastructure Details
The project includes installation of a false ceiling, floor tiling, partitioning, painting, and renovation works. A unique feature of the library is its accessibility for physically challenged individuals. Mayor Pandey also instructed the civil engineer to install a lift for elderly and veteran citizens, enabling them to reach the second floor.
Project Timeline
The mayor noted that the project may not be completed by August 2026, as earlier assured by officials, because digitisation of 35,000 books will require significant time.
