Kanpur: The West Zone Surveillance Team of Kanpur Nagar Police has successfully recovered 51 lost mobile phones by leveraging the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and public grievance applications. The operation was carried out under the directives of the Police Commissioner, Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar, and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S M Qasim Abidi.
Recovery Operation and Value of Recovered Phones
The recovered mobile phones are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 10 lakh. The team acted promptly on complaints registered through the CEIR portal, which tracks and blocks lost or stolen devices using their unique IMEI numbers. The public grievance applications also played a crucial role in identifying the owners and facilitating the recovery process.
Verification and Handover Process
After completing all necessary verification and legal formalities, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) personally handed over the mobile phones to their rightful owners. The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude towards the Kanpur Nagar Police for their swift action, technical proficiency, and dedication to public service.
How the CEIR Portal Works
The CEIR portal is a government initiative that allows citizens to report lost or stolen mobile phones. Once reported, the IMEI number is blocked across all networks, making the device unusable. This system not only helps in recovering lost phones but also deters theft and illegal trade of mobile devices.
