Kolkata experienced traces of rain on Tuesday morning, but they failed to alleviate the rising heat and humidity. The Met office has forecast that rain relief may arrive by the weekend, but Kolkata is likely to see respite as early as Thursday. Although the Met office has predicted enhanced rain activities in south Bengal starting Wednesday, officials indicate that the probability of rain in Kolkata is significantly higher between Thursday and Friday.
Rain Probability and Intensity
According to Met scientist HR Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata, the current conditions suggest a 30% chance of rain for Kolkata on Wednesday, but this probability escalates to 80% by Thursday. He stated, "This time, the intensity of the thunderstorm activity should be enough to drag down both the mercury and the humidity." The Met officials expect a drop of two to three degrees Celsius in temperature.
Impact of Recent Heat
The city has been grappling with intense heat and humidity as the last thundershower occurred nine days ago. Despite the maximum temperature hovering around the normal mark, high humidity levels have made the heat unbearable for residents.
