Mangaluru Police Seize MDMA Worth Rs 6.6 Lakh, Arrest One

Mangaluru: In a significant drug bust, police arrested an accused and seized MDMA worth over Rs 6.6 lakh during a raid near Padil railway underpass on Friday. The operation was conducted by the Kankanady Town police station team led by PSI Shivakumar.

Details of the Operation

According to the complaint filed by PSI Shivakumar, he and his team were on patrol duty when they spotted a suspicious person on Perla Road near NH-73, heading towards Veeranagar. The accused, identified as Mohammed Gul Zaheem, was found sitting on a black electric scooter in a public place, allegedly in possession of MDMA with the intent to transport and sell it. On noticing the police vehicle, he attempted to flee.

Recovery of Contraband and Items

During the search, police recovered 25.2 grams of MDMA and a cellphone from his trouser pockets. Additionally, 40.6 grams of MDMA was found in the scooter, along with 25 small zip-lock covers and a battery-operated weighing scale. The total quantity of MDMA seized was 65.8 grams. The total value of all seized items, including the scooter and phone, is estimated at Rs 8.1 lakh.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The accused has been taken into custody. Police said he allegedly procured the MDMA from an unidentified person in Bengaluru. A case has been registered at the Kankanady police station, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and network involved.
