According to the outage-tracking platform Downdetector, reports surged in both India and the United States, with users reporting issues ranging from app failures and login problems to website access disruptions. While WhatsApp also recorded a smaller increase in complaints, the majority of reports were concentrated on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.
User Complaints and Impact
Many users reported being unable to log in to their accounts, while others experienced problems accessing feeds, sending messages, or using the mobile apps. The outage appeared to affect both web and app users. Facebook and Instagram saw the highest number of user complaints.
Facebook Outage Details
Facebook recorded the highest number of outage reports in the US, peaking at 109,365 reports before falling to 5,958 at the time of writing. Among affected users, 56% reported app-related issues, 27% experienced login problems, and 10% reported website access issues. In India, Facebook outage reports peaked at 1,093 before declining to 410. About 49% of users reported problems with the app, while 30% faced login issues and 12% reported server connection problems.
Instagram Outage Details
Instagram also saw a significant spike in complaints. In India, reports peaked at 8,582 before dropping to 4,716. Of those affected, 51% reported app issues, 36% experienced login problems, and 7% cited server connection issues. In the US, Instagram reports reached a peak of 8,868 before falling to 5,398. Around 57% of users reported app-related issues, 22% faced login problems, and 11% reported server connection issues.
Messenger and WhatsApp Impact
Messenger users also reported disruptions during the outage. In the US, reports peaked at 15,403 before declining to 2,960. Login problems accounted for 54% of reports, while 31% were related to the app and 14% involved messaging issues. In India, Messenger had 91 reports at the time of writing. WhatsApp appeared to be less affected compared to Meta's other services. In India, reports peaked at 216 before falling to 103. Around 37% of users reported app issues, 32% experienced login problems, and 27% reported website-related issues. In the US, WhatsApp reports peaked at 153 and stood at 148 at the time of writing. Website-related issues accounted for 42% of reports, followed by app problems at 26% and login issues at 20%.
Meta's Response and Recovery
Meta has not yet publicly commented on the cause of the disruption. The company does not maintain a public status page for its consumer services, making it difficult to independently verify the exact scope of the outage. At the time of publication, outage reports on Downdetector were gradually declining, suggesting that some services may be recovering, though users continued to report issues across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.
