Commercial flights will commence from Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar on June 15, marking the beginning of civil aviation services from the greenfield airport. The launch is set to provide a modern and world-class aviation gateway for passengers, airlines, and cargo operators in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas.
Regulatory Approvals and Security Clearance
According to officials, the start of operations follows the airport's inauguration and the approval of its Aerodrome Security Programme by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). This certification confirms that the airport's security systems, infrastructure, and operational procedures meet all regulatory requirements for commercial operations.
First Flight and Airlines
The first commercial flight from NIA will be operated by IndiGo. Akasa Air and Air India Express are also expected to begin services from the airport soon. Detailed information regarding flight schedules, destinations, and ticket bookings will be announced by the respective airlines.
Infrastructure and Connectivity
Developed to cater to the growing demand for air travel, Noida Airport features a modern passenger terminal, advanced operational systems, and multimodal connectivity. The airport is designed to ensure efficient aircraft operations and improved passenger handling facilities while maintaining competitive operational costs for airlines. The commencement of commercial services is anticipated to enhance regional and national air connectivity, supporting tourism, trade, and investment in western Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the airport will help ease congestion at existing airports in the Delhi-NCR region.
Road and Logistics Links
The airport is well-connected via major road and logistics infrastructure, including the Yamuna Expressway, Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, the Dedicated Freight Corridor, and the proposed multimodal logistics hub. These links strengthen its role in regional transportation networks.
Sustainability and Future Expansion
Noida International Airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited. The project follows sustainable design and operational principles, with plans aimed at achieving net-zero emissions over time. Currently, the airport has one runway and one terminal with an annual passenger handling capacity of approximately 12 million. According to the master plan, the airport's capacity will be expanded in phases to handle over 70 million passengers annually, positioning it among India's major aviation hubs in the future.
