Nagpur University (NU) has left several students in a state of confusion as its exam section and PhD cell have scheduled overlapping examination dates. Students are now forced to choose between their MCom examinations and the PhD entrance test (PET), both slated for May 9 to May 12.
Overlap with CA Exams
The situation is further complicated by the fact that MCom exams also clash with chartered accountancy (CA) examinations. According to the schedule, CA final exams for Group I are on May 2, 4, and 6, with Group II on May 8, 10, and 12. CA intermediate exams for Group I are on May 5, 7, and 9, and Group II on May 11, 13, and 15. Additionally, CA foundation exams run from May 14 to May 20. This leaves MCom students in a dilemma about whether to prioritize their university exams or competitive tests.
Student Delegation Meets Officials
A delegation of students met with deputy registrar Motiram Tadas, who is in charge of the Board of Examination and Evaluation, on Thursday. They highlighted that the MCom exam dates in May 2026 coincide with multiple CA group exams as well as the online PET. The students urged the university administration to reconsider and revise the MCom exam timetable to prevent scheduling conflicts. They stated that the current overlap is causing undue stress and may impact their performance.
University's Response
Exam officials have indicated that they are now planning to hold the PET on a single Sunday. A four-day slot was originally allocated in case the number of examinees was high. However, with this issue, the university intends to wrap up the test in one day. Officials also assured MCom final-year students that they need not worry, as the university will hold another PET in October, allowing them to enroll for PhD this year. Additionally, NU will conduct special exams for any student who is forced to miss a university exam due to another exam schedule.
Students have expressed hope that the university will take prompt action to ensure they can appear for all examinations without inconvenience.
