According to Pet Sitters International, an educational organization for professional pet sitters, in the 1980s, Patti Moran became disillusioned with corporate life and was inspired by a close friend who shared her deep love for animals. She launched her own pet-sitting business in North Carolina in 1983, caring for others' pets as if they were her own—more than a venture, it was a true passion. As her success spread nationwide, Patti shared her expertise in the 1987 book Pet Sitting for Profit, the first comprehensive guide on the subject. Widely regarded as the "bible" of the profession, it has guided numerous entrepreneurs ever since.
