Rohtas Police Bust E-Commerce Fraud Racket

Sasaram: Rohtas police have uncovered an organised fraud racket that allegedly siphoned off expensive electronic products from e-commerce consignments by replacing them with duplicate or low-value items before delivery to customers.

Five persons have been arrested in connection with the racket, and a large cache of electronic gadgets along with the vehicle used in the operation has been seized.

Press Conference Details

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, ASP Atulesh Jha said the case came to light on June 13 when members of an e-commerce company from Dehri and Sasaram brought three suspicious individuals along with several parcel packages to Dehri town police station. Preliminary inquiry revealed that two of the suspects were working as delivery executives, while the third was involved in preparing duplicate products that were used to replace original items.

Masterminds and Recruitment

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that the operation was allegedly being masterminded by Satyakam alias Kishu and Amar Raja, both residents of Samastipur district. Police said the duo had recruited delivery personnel by offering them a monthly payment of Rs 40,000 to participate in the illegal scheme. Investigators found that the gang targeted consignments containing high-value electronic goods. The original products were allegedly removed during transit and replaced with fake or cheaper items, after which the parcels were resealed and delivered to customers, causing losses to both consumers and the e-commerce company.

With the help of technical surveillance and local intelligence inputs, police identified a vehicle bearing registration number BR-09AS-7551. Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted the vehicle in Amas police station area of Gaya district and detained Amar Raja and Satyakam Chaudhary, who were subsequently brought to Dehri for further questioning. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of electronic items suspected to have been procured through the fraud.

Arrested Accused

The arrested accused have been identified as Satyakam alias Kishu, Amar Raja, Chandan Kumar, Pradeep Kumar Prince and Harshal Kumar, all residents of different areas of Samastipur district. Police seized a car, seven mobile phones and several electronic items.
