The South Asian University (SAU) has implemented enhanced security protocols on its campus, authorizing security personnel to conduct frisking and inspect bags and personal belongings as part of efforts to bolster campus safety.
Notification Details
In a notification issued on June 2, the university stated that these measures are being enforced following repeated instances of prohibited items and substances being discovered on campus. Security checks may be conducted at entry and exit points as well as at other locations within the university premises whenever deemed necessary.
Student Cooperation Required
The notification emphasized that students are expected to cooperate with security personnel during inspections. Refusal to comply with security procedures, obstructing security staff, or engaging in misconduct during checks could result in disciplinary action under the university's code of conduct. Depending on the severity of the violation, penalties may include suspension or expulsion.
Ban on Prohibited Items
SAU has reiterated its prohibition on narcotic substances, alcohol, weapons, explosives, and other hazardous materials on campus. Students are required to carry their university identity cards at all times and present them upon request by authorized personnel.
The university stated that these measures are introduced to ensure the safety and security of the campus community and to maintain a secure academic environment. SAU also reserved the right to implement additional security arrangements in the future if necessary.
University officials approached by the newspaper did not respond to queries regarding the new security measures.
Broader Context
The move comes amid ongoing discussions about security and privacy on university campuses, reflecting a growing trend of heightened security protocols in educational institutions.
