Sony has announced a price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions in India, affecting all tiers including Essential, Extra, and Deluxe. The new prices take effect immediately for new subscribers, while existing members will see the changes upon renewal.
New PlayStation Plus Prices in India
The monthly subscription for PlayStation Plus Essential has been raised from Rs 499 to Rs 599, a hike of Rs 100. The quarterly plan now costs Rs 1,499, up from Rs 1,299. The annual plan sees an increase from Rs 2,999 to Rs 3,599.
For PlayStation Plus Extra, the monthly price jumps from Rs 749 to Rs 899, while the quarterly plan rises from Rs 1,999 to Rs 2,399. The annual plan is now Rs 4,999, compared to the previous Rs 4,299.
The top-tier PlayStation Plus Deluxe, which includes cloud streaming and game trials, now costs Rs 1,099 per month, up from Rs 899. The quarterly plan goes from Rs 2,499 to Rs 2,899, and the annual plan increases from Rs 4,999 to Rs 5,999.
Why the Price Hike?
Sony cited rising operational costs and investments in enhancing the service as reasons for the increase. The company stated that the new pricing aligns with global adjustments and helps sustain the quality of content and features offered to subscribers.
Impact on Gamers
The price hike has sparked mixed reactions among Indian gamers. While some understand the need for adjustments, others feel the increase is steep, especially for the Deluxe tier. Many are considering downgrading their plans or evaluating the value proposition of PlayStation Plus against competitors like Xbox Game Pass.
Sony continues to offer monthly free games, exclusive discounts, and cloud storage for saves. However, the price increase may prompt subscribers to be more selective about their gaming subscriptions.
Existing subscribers will be grandfathered into their current rates until their next renewal date, after which the new prices apply. Sony recommends users check their renewal dates and plan accordingly.
