Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Task Force police, along with SR Nagar police, arrested a suspended CISF constable on Tuesday night and seized 158 kg of ganja valued at Rs 79 lakh. The accused, identified as P Shiva Krishna, 39, a native of Mothugudem in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh, was last posted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Arrest and Seizure
Acting on a specific tip-off, the police apprehended Krishna near Nature Cure Hospital in SR Nagar. During the operation, they recovered 158 kg of ganja, a car, and three mobile phones from his possession. According to the police, the accused had been residing at Ottoor village in Thiruvananthapuram. He was recruited as a constable in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in 2009 and later served on deputation with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Modus Operandi
Task Force DCP Vaibhav Gaikwad stated, "Krishna identified the high demand for ganja and, facing financial difficulties, began transporting the contraband illegally on a commission basis." He procured the drug from cultivators in Odisha and supplied it to interstate peddlers operating in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. While transporting the ganja, he frequently misused his official position as a CISF constable. "Whenever his vehicle was stopped at police checkpoints, he would display his CISF identity card to avoid inspection," the police added.
Previous Arrest and Resumption of Activities
Krishna had been arrested earlier in 2025 by the Dammapet police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and was sent to Khammam jail on judicial remand. Following his arrest, he was suspended from service. After his release from prison, he resumed his illegal activities three months ago. A Task Force official revealed, "Every month, he made four trips from Odisha to different states, earning approximately Rs 10 lakh per month. We are working to identify the suppliers and buyers, and they will be arrested soon."
