A tragic accident in Mumbai's Dadar area on Monday morning claimed the life of a 28-year-old Swiggy delivery partner, Niyaz Ali, who had moved from his village in Uttar Pradesh to support his family. According to reports, a speeding BEST electric bus collided with multiple vehicles, killing Niyaz and injuring six others.
Background of the Victim
Niyaz Ali had left his home in Badhaipurva, Shravasti district, a few years ago to work in Mumbai. He took up various jobs, including loading vegetables onto tempos, before becoming a delivery partner for Swiggy. Living with a cousin in Null Bazaar, he was saving money for his father's eye treatment.
Family's Grief and Uncertainty
Niyaz's uncle, Roz Ali, who was accompanied by fellow villagers, struggled to inform Niyaz's parents about the incident. He finally broke the news late in the evening. Roz expressed uncertainty about compensation from Swiggy and BEST. "We are trying to understand how the company plans to compensate us. Some people are in touch. But there is very little clarity from BEST to us," he said.
Swiggy's Response
A Swiggy representative informed Times of India that the standard insurance amount of Rs 10 lakh will be processed once hospital formalities are completed. The company is also arranging transportation of Niyaz's remains to his hometown.
