A tragic incident unfolded in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district where a one-year-old child lost his life after a discarded mobile phone battery exploded while he was playing outside his house on Sunday. The boy, identified as the son of Mahendra Singh Netam, suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment early Tuesday morning.

The event occurred in Brahmpur village under the Premnagar region. According to police and family members, the toddler was playing outside his home with his siblings and other village children when some of them brought an old mobile battery they had found nearby. The damaged battery suddenly exploded, causing severe burns to the child's face and other parts of his body.
Medical Response
Family members immediately rushed the child to the Premnagar hospital. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was referred to the district hospital and later transferred to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital. Doctors made efforts to stabilize him, but he died during treatment at around 4 am on Tuesday.
Investigation
The boy's father informed police that he was unaware of the battery's origin and suspected the children might have picked it up while playing. Officials believe the battery may have exploded after its terminals were accidentally short-circuited while the children were handling it. Authorities are investigating the matter further.
