Uber has announced a strategic partnership with the Adani Group to establish its first data centre in India. The collaboration was revealed by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi after a meeting with Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, in Ahmedabad. The move underscores India's emergence as a leading innovation hub for the ride-hailing giant.
Investment and Economic Impact
The company stated that the investment is expected to catalyse an additional $150 billion by 2035 across various sectors, including server manufacturing, advanced electrical infrastructure, sovereign cloud platforms, and supporting industries. This initiative aligns with India's digital transformation goals and aims to bolster the country's technological capabilities.
Strengthening Existing Partnership
Khosrowshahi expressed enthusiasm about building on the existing partnership with the Adani Group. The data centre will be used to test and deploy Uber's technology, leveraging India's growing talent pool and infrastructure. The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where Khosrowshahi shared a photo with Gautam Adani and highlighted the significance of the collaboration.
The data centre is expected to enhance Uber's operational efficiency and support its expansion plans in India, a key market for the company. The partnership also reflects the Adani Group's diversification into technology and digital infrastructure.
