Vietnam’s Vingroup is poised to enter India’s rapidly expanding ride-hailing market with its Green SM electric taxi service. The official launch is scheduled for June 5, 2026, in New Delhi, positioning Green SM as a new competitor to established cab aggregators such as Ola and Uber.
Expansion Plans and Strategy
The company is expected to commence operations in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) before extending its services to other major metropolitan cities across India. While VinFast has already made inroads into the Indian passenger vehicle market with electric SUVs and a local assembly facility in Tamil Nadu, this latest move signals a broader mobility strategy for the country. Rather than focusing solely on private buyers, VinFast is now targeting the high-visibility fleet mobility space through Green SM.
Green SM: The Electric Ride-Hailing Arm
Green SM is the electric ride-hailing and mobility arm of Vietnam’s Vingroup ecosystem, which also includes VinFast. Internationally, the service is also known as GSM or Green and Smart Mobility. Unlike traditional aggregator-based taxi platforms, the India operation is expected to follow a fleet-owned and company-managed model. This approach will give the operator tighter control over vehicles, drivers, charging infrastructure, service standards, and vehicle maintenance.
VinFast Vehicles for Fleet Operations
The upcoming taxi service will utilize VinFast electric vehicles. Reports suggest that the VinFast Limo Green could become the primary model for fleet operations in India, and the model has already been spotted on Indian roads. By deploying its electric vehicles directly into daily ride-hailing operations, the company could potentially familiarize Indian customers with its products at a much faster pace.
