WhatsApp Tests New Contacts Hub to Show Active Users
WhatsApp Tests Contacts Hub to Show Active Users

WhatsApp is developing a new 'contacts hub' feature that will display which of your contacts are currently active on the platform in a dedicated section. This feature aims to simplify initiating conversations by providing a single view of active users, rather than requiring users to check individual chats for last seen status, which may also be disabled for privacy reasons.

Current Limitations Addressed

Currently, users have to open each chat individually to see if a contact is online, and the last seen indicator can be turned off, making it difficult to know who is available to chat. The new contacts hub will consolidate this information, showing all active contacts at a glance.

Beta Testing Phase

The feature is already being tested on WhatsApp's Android beta version. There is no confirmed timeline for a public release yet, as the feature is still in development and may undergo changes based on user feedback.

Additional AI Feature

In addition to the contacts hub, WhatsApp is also testing a multi-chat AI summaries feature. This AI-powered tool will provide concise updates on messages from multiple chats and highlight urgent conversations, helping users stay on top of important discussions without scrolling through every chat.

With over three billion active users, WhatsApp continues to innovate and enhance user experience. These features are part of ongoing efforts to make the platform more intuitive and efficient.
