Online Scam: Youth Duped of Rs 2.25 Lakh Through Fake Traffic Challan Link

A young man from Mhow was cheated out of Rs 2.25 lakh after he received a link on his mobile phone and was asked to pay a traffic challan through it. The incident highlights the growing threat of cyber frauds targeting unsuspecting victims.

Badgonda police station in-charge Prakash Waskale informed TOI that the victim, Garvit Patidar, a resident of Laxmi Vihar Colony in Gawli Palasiya, fell prey to the scam. He received a link to a fraudulent website named “M Parivahan.org” on his phone and was instructed to deposit a traffic challan via that site.

“He downloaded the app and it was installed on his device two days back. Thereafter, he received three SMS alerts from his bank regarding withdrawal of money from his account totaling Rs 2.25 lakh. He submitted a complaint to the police and after investigation, the complaint was registered on Saturday night,” Waskale said.

A case under section 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against unidentified persons. Police are investigating the matter to trace the culprits.

Authorities advise citizens to be cautious of unsolicited links and to verify the authenticity of any payment requests, especially those related to government services. The official Parivahan website is parivahan.gov.in, and any other domain should be treated with suspicion.
