After a 12-year hiatus, Akshay Kumar and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah are set to reunite for a groundbreaking project. The duo is collaborating on 'Samuk', described as India's first large-scale alien survival thriller, marking a bold new chapter for both.
Akshay Kumar Reflects on Past Collaborations
In an interview with Variety India, Akshay Kumar fondly recalled their successful partnership. 'After 12 years, Vipul and I are coming together again. We've done great films like Aankhen (2002), Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005), Namastey London (2007), and Singh Is Kinng (2008), among others,' he said, adding humorously, 'And yes, we also made a legendary film called Action Replayy.'
'Samuk' to Blend Creature Horror and Military Realism
'Samuk' promises a unique cinematic experience, combining alien survival action with creature horror, military realism, and old-school suspense. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood franchises like Alien and Predator, the film is directed by Kanishk Varma, known for Sanak and the series Inside Edge. Production is expected to begin in August 2025, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
Akshay Kumar on International Standards
Akshay emphasized the film's ambitious scope. 'We are entering a completely new genre that nobody has attempted before. It's an alien thriller,' he said. He insisted on international-level production, adding, 'That's why we brought in an international crew. Samuk is the first of its kind, and that was crucial from the start.'
Hollywood Talent Behind the Scenes
The film boasts top-tier Hollywood talent. Alec Gillis, a veteran of Alien and Predator, is designing the creature, while action specialist Luke Tumber, known for global blockbusters, handles stunts. The makers are prioritizing practical creature effects and grand action sequences over CGI, giving the film a raw, visceral edge.
Akshay Kumar's Boldest Genre Leap
For Akshay, known for versatility across comedy, historical epics, and action, Samuk represents uncharted territory. It could be his most daring genre experiment, offering something completely fresh and unseen in Indian cinema.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah on the Reunion
Producer Vipul A. Shah expressed excitement: 'I am thrilled to reunite with Akshay and bring him back into action. Kanishk Varma worked on the film for two years before pitching it to Akshay, who loved it instantly. We will leave no stone unturned to make it the most exciting experience for audiences.'
