Denver Broncos Linked to Jimmy Garoppolo as Backup QB Option
Broncos Eye Garoppolo for Backup QB Role

The Denver Broncos were a dominant force last season, capturing their first AFC West title and the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC since 2015. With a 14-3 record, the team suffered a heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round. Now, as the new season approaches, the Broncos are reportedly linked to a popular quarterback.

Broncos Tipped to Pursue Jimmy Garoppolo

Bleacher Report's Zach Bachar recently predicted that 34-year-old quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be an impactful addition to the Denver Broncos. In a report, Bachar noted, "Broncos quarterback Bo Nix wasn't able to play in their loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game due to a fractured right ankle that required surgery."

Bachar added, "While Nix is still expected to be ready for the start of the 2026 season after undergoing a recent clean-up procedure on his ankle, it would be understandable if Denver takes a cautious approach with the 26-year-old's recovery." He continued, "Jarrett Stidham remains the Broncos' backup quarterback after starting in the AFC Championship Game, but he struggled in the defeat against New England. Garoppolo could serve as a battle-tested reserve with six career playoff starts under his belt."

However, the Broncos have not officially commented on offering a deal to Garoppolo.

Debate Over Garoppolo's Addition

The potential addition of Garoppolo has sparked debate, given his decline in form and recent controversies. In the 2024 season, he faced a two-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Over the last two seasons, Garoppolo played only four games as a backup for the Los Angeles Rams, recording 27 completions on 41 attempts for 334 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

According to NFL Network, there are rumors that Garoppolo might retire soon, though nothing has been confirmed. Many await his return to the field.
