The Washington Commanders endured a challenging season on the field, winning only five games while losing twelve. This marked a significant drop from their 2024 campaign, where they secured twelve victories against five defeats. With quarterback Jayden Daniels sidelined due to major injuries, the team appears focused on strengthening its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Washington Commanders Could Pursue San Francisco 49ers Star Brandon Aiyuk
Hours ago, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay linked San Francisco 49ers standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Washington Commanders. In a recent report, Kay noted, "The Commanders aren't swimming in picks, but do possess four Day 3 selections. One of these could be used to reunite Aiyuk with Jayden Daniels, recreating a pairing that found success at Arizona State in 2019. Aiyuk led the Sun Devils with a team-high 65 catches for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns during that season." Kay added, "That established rapport could help Aiyuk find his footing and return to form quickly following an extended layoff. Washington would benefit heavily from a healthy Aiyuk too, as the club has little in the way of proven pass-catchers outside of aging Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin."
However, the Washington Commanders have refrained from confirming trade rumors concerning Brandon Aiyuk. According to a recent post by popular insider Ari Meirov, the San Francisco 49ers have not had much success in trade discussions for Aiyuk. Meirov's post on X read: "#49ers GM John Lynch said he's had trade discussions with teams on WR Brandon Aiyuk but acknowledged it's not a high probability they find a taker." The post added, "We'll see it through the draft — if something happens, great. If not, we'll re-evaluate after…"
Brandon Aiyuk's Injury Struggles
The 28-year-old wide receiver has faced a difficult period over the last few seasons due to severe knee injuries. He was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list last season and missed all games in 2025. Aiyuk also played in only seven games in 2024 before tearing his ACL and MCL in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs. That season, he finished with 25 receptions for 374 yards and zero touchdowns.
As fans await Brandon Aiyuk's return to form, all attention is on where he will land for the new season. The Commanders' potential move for Aiyuk could significantly bolster their receiving corps, providing a much-needed weapon for their offense.
