Google Launches Veo 3.1 Lite AI Video Tool, Cuts Veo 3.1 Fast Price

Google Expands AI Video Capabilities with New Veo 3.1 Lite Model and Price Reductions

In a significant move to democratize artificial intelligence-powered video creation, Google has unveiled two major updates for its Veo tool. The tech giant announced the launch of Veo 3.1 Lite, a new cost-effective video generation model, and a forthcoming price reduction for its existing Veo 3.1 Fast model, set to take effect in early April.

Introducing Veo 3.1 Lite: Affordable AI Video Generation for Developers

Veo 3.1 Lite represents Google's most economical video generation offering to date, designed specifically to make AI-driven video production accessible to a broader audience of developers. According to the company, this model is priced at less than 50% of the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast while maintaining comparable speed, making it an ideal solution for those building high-volume video applications who need to manage expenses without compromising on performance.

The model supports both Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video generation, allowing developers to create videos from written prompts or existing images. It offers flexible aspect ratios, including landscape at 16:9 and portrait at 9:16, and supports resolutions of 720p (HD) and 1080p (FHD). Developers can select from three clip durations: 4, 6, or 8 seconds, with pricing adjusted based on the chosen length. Veo 3.1 Lite is now available through the paid tier on the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, with the rollout currently in progress.

Price Cut for Veo 3.1 Fast Enhances Accessibility

In addition to the new model, Google revealed plans to reduce pricing for Veo 3.1 Fast starting April 7. This adjustment aims to make the faster and more capable model more attainable for developers who require higher performance but have been deterred by previous costs. The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to expanding video generation availability, hinting at more updates in the near future.

Google's Strategic Positioning in the AI Video Market

The announcements were accompanied by subtle commentary from Google executives, seemingly referencing competitors like OpenAI, whose Sora AI video tool was recently discontinued. Logan Kilpatrick, head of Google AI Studio and Gemini API, stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), "Video's here to stay - introducing Veo 3.1 Lite, our most cost efficient video generation model to date, and on April 7th we are also reducing the price for Veo 3.1 Fast." This suggests Google's intent to position itself as a reliable, available, and affordable alternative in the rapidly evolving AI video landscape.

These developments underscore Google's aggressive push to lead in AI video technology, offering tools that cater to diverse developer needs from budget-conscious projects to high-performance applications. As the demand for AI-generated content grows, such innovations are poised to reshape how videos are created and consumed across industries.
